Wisdom Teeth Extractions

Wisdom teeth are usually the last teeth to erupt in the mouth. They typically emerge during the ages 17-25 and sometimes grow at awkward angles and become what we call impacted teeth. The posterior location of these teeth often hinders their ability to be cleaned adequately and as a result they are prone to painful wisdom teeth infections. Even straight wisdom teeth may lead to potential problems such as cavities. As such, removal of these problematic wisdom teeth is often recommended. In some cases, the wisdom teeth extraction procedure is recommended before or after orthodontic treatment (braces) in order to ensure a more stable orthodontic result.
Wisdom teeth removal symptoms can include:

  • Pain or stiffness of the jaw that may radiate to the ear and temples
  • Painful wisdom teeth swelling
  • Crowding of other teeth
  • Tongue, cheek or mouth roof irritation at the back of the mouth
