Sometimes, a tooth can become weakened due to a large filling or tooth fracture. This means that the weak tooth has an increased risk of breaking from everyday activities such as chewing. Dental crowns are restorations that fit over the top of weakened teeth and reinforce them so they become stronger. They can increase the lifespan of a fragile tooth by 10 years or more.
Dental crown material typically consists of white or silver metal on the inside and white porcelain covering the outside. The outer white porcelain helps them blend seamlessly with the natural teeth. Tooth crown procedures usually take two appointments to complete. In the first appointment, the weakened tooth is prepared and a temporary crown is placed until the permanent one is ready. In the second appointment, the temporary crown is removed and the permanent crown is cemented.
Dental crown implants can also be used to replace missing teeth. We offer free consultations so that you can discuss all your options with Dr. Saggu
